“Falling”
by Suzán Jiván Mom &

Falling on deaf ears while being steered
by horned creatures left reeling
dragging lower bodies shuffling detritus
due to potential risks and benefits
of ketone levels as scientists measure
gulls’ heads during clashes everywhere
like “unfair” being laid bare
while looking ashen along blackened paths
in the midst of wildflower battles
as children strain beach sand
for baseline realities
getting nagged by laughing gulls
and divebombing from the air
tempers flaring some living nowhere
near the sea and never going near people
yet perfecting their stealing techniques
in order to feed their screeching offspring
flaring ferocity getting hotter and hotter
charting uncontainable fires
increasing lightning striking spiking
carbon dioxide rising global sacrifices
binging ‘n’ cramming with Playbills in hand
as theatrical forebears debuting plants
that talk like razed redwood forests
heaving running water performing
natural protocols yet feeling ignored
wearing flesh-matching corsets
doused with cold water for peek-a-boo joy
along with hallucinatory florals
fragrant to the core unfolding down the shore ...
